My name is Gloria E. Garza.
I am a Texas educator of longstanding. I hold degrees from the University of Texas Pan American (B.A.1973, M.A.1975) and the University of Texas at Austin (Ph.D. 1992) in Latin American Studies, Spanish Language, and 20th Century Latin American & Brazilian Literature, respectively. I was Instructor of Spanish and Portuguese at UT-Pan American from 1976-1983; Assistant Instructor of Spanish and Portuguese at UT-Austin (1983-1990), and Lecturer in Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Brazilian Literature at UT-Austin from 1992-1994. I have taught AP Spanish language and AP Spanish literature (1994 to the present) and French I (2008- to the present) at Westlake High School, Austin, Texas. I am the recipient of a number of academic and teaching awards, including Best Dissertation of the Year (UT-Austin/Spanish-Portuguese Dept.,1992), Outstanding Educator Awards from UT-Austin, 1998, Stanford University, 2009, University of Chicago, 2011; Golden Apple Teaching Award, WHS-1998; Fulbright Scholar, 1982 (Brazil), 1999 (Spain), 2000 (Spain). I am a College Board Consultant (1998- to the present), and have served as AP Reader, Table Leader and Question Leader for over a decade and a half. I am an enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring teacher.
